Dedicated to what matters in Minnesota.

Hi, I'm Jim Davnie

I was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2000. Before that, I taught middle school social studies for 17 years. While teaching, I served three terms as my local union’s president and in leadership positions at the state level with the Minnesota Federation of Teachers and Education Minnesota. Now I'm a personal finance educator for Lutheran Social Service.

Before being elected, I served for four years on the board of the Seward Neighborhood Group, including representing the neighborhood on the Hiawatha LRT Citizens Advisory Committee during the development of the Hiawatha line. I served on the board of the African Health Action, a nonprofit focused on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis education and prevention in the African-born community in Minnesota. I was also on the Advisory Board of the Personal Finance Center, a project of Faith in the City that provided Individual Development Accounts, a form of matched savings for low income people saving for college, home ownership, or business. Currently, I'm on the Advisory Board for Camp du Nord, a family camp operated by the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities.
